2009 Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe
2009 Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe

Dolce Guide had the opportunity to road test the latest Rolls Royce model, the Phantom Coupe. The Phantom Coupe follows in the footsteps of the Drophead convertible model launched in 2007.

The Phantom Coupe I drove had an approximate list price of 480,000 euros according to the sales manager at Rolls Royce Marbella. Being no stranger to driving expensive cars I have to say this model is in a league of its own. We are talking about the same money as a luxury penthouse apartment in Marbella. I remember hearing that wealthy people typically spend 10% of their liquid assets on their automobiles which would mean that the typical buyer would have to have at least 5 million euros sitting in the bank!

The Phantom Coupe is imposing yet elegant and certainly makes a statement. The car certainly turned a few heads while on my test drive around Estepona.  The driving position is surprisingly high bearing in mind you are driving a coupe, you are sat above everybody else  on the road in every sense of the word. As you would expect from a Rolls Royce the ride is quiet and very refined. Even though the car has a V12 6.75 litre engine that puts out a more than adequate 453 horsepower the power is delivered very gradually and even during heavy acceleration passengers sat in the rear sipping champagne could continue their conversations unaware of the change in velocity. This isn’t a car for speed junkies but for people who can take their time getting to wherever they need to be. The Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe is no slouch however, it has the same 0 – 60 speed as a Porsche Boxster.

The interior of the Phantom Coupe is luxurious and traditional yet you have the underlying feeling that there is a lot of clever technology hidden away. Push a polished silver button and a modern satellite navigation screen appears from behind a polished wooden panel.  A nice touch is the automatic doors, push a button and the doors automatically close. How very civilised.

With an abundance of style, grace and exclusivity the Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe is the car to arrive in if you want to make a grand statement. So, if you have 500,000 burning a hole in your pocket why not visit the Rolls Royce dealership and treat yourself to something truly out of this world.
