BMW X6 3.0d Is BMW back? Being a former BMW fan and owner of several BMW’s over the years I have in recent years lost interest in the designs and have found more of an interest in the current Audi line up. The latest BMW incarnation, the X6 has perked my interest again as did the recent launch of the 135i coupe which captures what made the BMW coupes so sporty in the first place.
The X6 is dubbed a Sports Activity Coupé, the X6 combines the sleek looks of a coupé with the spaciousness and ruggedness of a prestige SUV. The X6 is set to rival the current leaders in the field, the Range Rover Sport and Porsche Cayenne. Virtually unchanged from the active hybrid concept which the company revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, the X6 looks amazing. It is quite different from other BMW’s in the current range and every body panel is unique. The coupe roofline and single piece hatchback provide stunning lines. It reminds me a little of the Infinity FX35 / FX45 models which have the presence of a large 4x4 luxury vehicle yet have a sporty ness that will appeal to sports car fans. The X6 accommodates only four people, with two individual seats in the back. The X6 coupé is based on the X5 platform, but gets Dynamic Performance Control (DPC) to enhance traction and stability. The all new system builds on the benefits offered by the xDrive 4x4 drive train. The rear track is widened and carries massive 20 inch alloy wheels. BMW X6 3.0d sleek lines The X6 has a new eight speed automatic gearbox with steering wheel paddles. The X6 3.0d is powered by a 290bhp 3.0 litre twin turbo diesel engine. Buyers will also be offered a 400bhp version of the 4.8 litre V8 from the X5. The X6 will start from around £45,000 in the UKand is due out early 2008. Welcome back BMW.
